Wike Confirms No Reversal on Jabi Lake Concession Plan

On Wednesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, confirmed that there would be no reversal of the concession plan for Jabi Lake, despite public appeals, including a viral video of Pastor Sarah Omakwu pleading for reconsideration. Wike stated that the land is government property and cannot be sold to individuals.

He explained that the administration inherited poorly managed arrangements regarding the lake, which had been allocated to a company for 15 to 16 years without development. Wike emphasized the need for new investors capable of developing the site, as the previous allocation had not yielded any progress.

He also mentioned that emotional appeals would not influence policy decisions and reiterated that strict monitoring would be implemented to prevent past failures. Wike further noted that the government aims to improve the investment climate in Abuja and has signed agreements to transform Jabi Lake into a major recreational hub.
