Wike Advocates Stronger Japan Partnership for Abuja Development

On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), called for a closer partnership with Japan to accelerate the development of Abuja. During a meeting with Suzuki Hideo, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Wike highlighted key areas for collaboration, including urban planning, education, and agriculture.

He praised Japan's role in updating Abuja's master plan, which he described as vital for sustainable growth. Wike acknowledged Japan's support in Nigeria's education sector, particularly through teacher training programs conducted in Tokyo.

He emphasized the importance of agricultural development and urban planning in future cooperation. Ambassador Suzuki reaffirmed Japan's commitment to Nigeria's development, noting various projects implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development.

JICA's initiatives include a review of Abuja's 1979 master plan to align it with development needs up to 2050, focusing on infrastructure expansion and climate resilience.
