Wike Responds to Senator Kingibe on Abuja Flooding Issues

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded to criticism from FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe regarding the administration's management of flooding and urban development in Abuja. Wike dismissed Kingibe's suggestion for closer cooperation, stating he was appointed to work with all stakeholders, not just one individual.

His comments came after inspecting flood-affected areas in Maitama, where he ordered the demolition of structures blocking waterways. Kingibe had previously alleged that developments approved under Wike's administration obstructed natural waterways, worsening the flooding situation.

She expressed concerns about construction in environmentally sensitive areas during an interview on Arise TV. Wike challenged Kingibe to leverage her position in the National Assembly to propose legislation addressing flooding issues, criticizing her for relying on media appearances rather than legislative action.

He suggested her criticisms were politically motivated, linked to the upcoming election, and urged her to communicate her legislative efforts to constituents.
