Wike Not Responsible for Abuja Floods, Says Reps Spokesman

Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives and a Labour Party lawmaker representing the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, defended Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, against criticisms concerning recent flooding in Abuja. In a statement released on Tuesday, Agbese argued that residents must also take responsibility for their actions contributing to the flooding.

He stated that blaming Wike for the floods is unjust, likening it to blaming Moses for leading the Israelites to the Promised Land. Agbese highlighted the infrastructure projects initiated by the FCT Administration, including the completion of 221 kilometers of roads in satellite towns since President Bola Tinubu's administration began.

He pointed out that flooding is a shared responsibility, exacerbated by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse that blocks drainage systems. Agbese urged residents to stop using drainage channels as dumping grounds and called for continued investment in flood-control infrastructure by the FCTA.
