Wike Inaugurates FCT Council Chairmen, Warns Against Misconduct

On Monday, during the inauguration ceremony of six newly elected area council chairmen in Abuja, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), issued a stern warning against misconduct and financial recklessness. He cautioned that such actions could undermine public trust.

Wike declared an end to administrative laxity and emphasized that the real governance task had begun. He reminded the chairmen that they must prioritize the needs of the people and not engage in traditional practices that detract from their responsibilities.

Wike announced plans for stricter oversight of area council finances and warned against illegal practices, specifically stating that no chairman should sign checks without proper authorization. He also expressed concern over recurring labor strikes affecting local government employees and urged the chairmen to resolve labor disputes effectively.

Wike encouraged the chairmen to reside within their council areas to better understand community challenges and to engage with stakeholders regularly.
