Windstorm in Zamfara Kills One, Destroys 200 Houses

A devastating windstorm struck Zamfara, resulting in the death of one child and injuring 20 individuals. Malam Barau described the incident as unprecedented, with the storm affecting three villages and destroying over 200 houses, which represents at least one-third of the total structures in those areas.

The storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall and intense hailstones, caused significant destruction, uprooting trees and demolishing homes. Abdullahi Suleiman Bela noted that the storm has severely impacted the community, including orphans and newly married couples.

The affected areas include Rugar Kaya, Anguwar Marafa, and the main town of Bela. Victims are currently living in makeshift shelters constructed from guinea corn stalks, with some families sharing single rooms.

Local representatives, including Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu, have confirmed the incident and are seeking urgent assistance from relevant government agencies.

The Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is coordinating with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assess the damage.
