WIP Urges President Tinubu to Intervene in NFSS Detention

The World Institute for Peace (WIP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the prolonged detention of Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) Commander Osatimehin Joshua Wole. This appeal was made during a press conference held in Osogbo on Monday.

WIP Executive Director Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi expressed concerns that the situation surrounding the detention is linked to actions within the National Security Advisory Office, specifically mentioning Malam Nuhu Ribadu. Omotoyosi highlighted that the continued detention of the NFSS commander raises questions about adherence to due process and could discourage citizens from voluntarily supporting national security efforts.

The organization acknowledged President Tinubu's efforts to strengthen Nigeria's security framework, particularly with the approval of the Forest Guard initiative set for May 2025. However, WIP stressed the need for a fair and transparent handling of the matter concerning NFSS leadership.

They described the NFSS as critical to grassroots security, with 70,000 volunteers nationwide contributing to intelligence gathering and community protection.
