Wolfsburg Sacks Coach Daniel Bauer Amid Relegation Crisis

VfL Wolfsburg has dismissed head coach Daniel Bauer as the club faces a deepening relegation threat in the Bundesliga. The decision was confirmed following a 2-1 home defeat to Hamburg SV, which left Wolfsburg in 17th place, two points behind Werder Bremen, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot.

Managing Director of Sport Peter Christiansen announced the decision, while Sport Director Pirmin Schwegler noted that Bauer's tenure began with promise after he secured the job permanently following an initial interim period. However, the team's form deteriorated significantly, highlighted by an 8-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, marking the start of a slump that saw Wolfsburg go eight league games without a win, collecting only two points during that stretch.

German media reports suggest that former Wolfsburg boss Dieter Heck is a leading candidate to take over and help steer the club away from relegation troubles. Heck previously guided Wolfsburg to a DFB-Pokal title in 2015 and a second-place finish in the Bundesliga.
