Woman Killed Over Witchcraft Allegations in Bauchi

On July 28, Hafse Ubale, 30, was murdered in Bauchi after being accused of witchcraft by attackers led by Garba Daudu, 35. The assailants, armed with sticks and machetes, assaulted her husband, Audu Sabo, and injured their children, Sale Audu, 12, and Yakubu Audu, 14.

The attack was reported to the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters on July 29 by a 45-year-old resident of Garin Malam. Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib confirmed that the attackers unlawfully entered Audu Sabo’s residence, leading to the fatal assault on Hafse Ubale.

Following the incident, police, along with hunters and vigilantes, evacuated the victims to the General Hospital in Gamawa, where Hafse was pronounced dead. One suspect has been arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend the other two.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution. Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killing and warned against violence driven by superstition.
