Widow Forced to Drink Dead Husband's Bath Water, Gov't Intervenes

A widow in Oru East Local Government Area was coerced to drink water used to bathe her deceased husband as a ritual to prove her innocence in his death. Governor Hope Uzodimma condemned the act, leading to a full-scale investigation.

Chief Nkechi Ugwu of the Women Affairs Commission intervened to rescue the widow, Mr. Chika Ndubuisi.

The government is committed to protecting women from degrading cultural practices and has urged community leaders to report such customs. The incident highlighted the need to address social issues and uphold human rights.
