Worker Receives N25m After Arm Amputation in Lagos

Joshua Shapara, an employee at Anjia Prefab Limited in Lagos, received N25 million in compensation after suffering severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of his right arm due to an industrial accident on Sunday, 2024. Following the incident, he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Lagos State Safety Commission issued a statement regarding the accident, which highlighted the necessity for strict adherence to workplace safety measures. Lanre Mojola, the Director General of the Commission, and Adekunbi Obamonir, the Head of Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs, noted the critical gaps in workplace safety practices and stressed the importance of proactive hazard identification and compliance with health and safety regulations.

The Commission is committed to enforcing occupational safety standards across workplaces in Lagos State to prevent future incidents. Additionally, the Commission has been involved in other safety investigations, including a crane accident that resulted in a fatality at a construction site in Lekki.
