Nigerian Health Worker Union Urges Government Action to Prevent Healthcare System Collapse

The Medic Health Worker Union Nigeria (MHWUN) in Abuja has called on the Nigerian government to take urgent measures to save the healthcare system from collapse. They highlighted issues such as poor infrastructure, inadequate personnel, insufficient public investment, and the exodus of skilled healthcare professionals due to poor welfare packages.

The union condemned the government's failure to meet the 15% health budget commitment made in 2001, leading to rising insecurity, economic hardship, and a worsening healthcare sector. They urged the government to prioritize worker welfare, commit resources, and create incentives to retain healthcare workers in Nigeria.
