World Bank Approves N462bn for 1.3m IDPs, Others in Northern Nigeria

The World Bank has approved $300 million (N462 billion) to support 1.3 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host communities in northern Nigeria. The Solutions to Internally Displaced Host Communities Project (SOLID) aims to improve access to essential services and economic opportunities for those affected by armed conflict, banditry, communal clashes, and the Boko Haram insurgency.

The project will focus on selected local government areas in troubled regions where IDPs have faced repeated attacks, leading to overcrowded camps and inadequate living conditions. The World Bank highlighted the need for an integrated development strategy to help IDPs and host communities build resilience and transition from dependency on humanitarian aid to sustainable economic opportunities.

The project is expected to benefit millions of people and promote social cohesion, infrastructure development, and economic growth in northern Nigeria.
