EU, IOM donate N1.7 billion to support IDPs in Benue

The European Union (EU) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have jointly pledged a new humanitarian support package of approximately N1.7 billion to aid internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State. The announcement was made during a visit to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia on August 20, 2025, by IOM Deputy Director General of Operations Ugochi Daniels and Regional Director for West and Central Africa Sylvia Ekra.

Governor Alia described the intervention as a crucial step in strengthening the state's humanitarian response and providing durable solutions for IDPs. The IOM has been actively involved in coordinating camps, providing shelter, water, and sanitation services, as well as deploying a Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in Benue since 2023.

The collaboration between the EU, IOM, and UNHCR reaffirms a shared responsibility towards the displaced population and aims to deepen partnerships for sustainable peace and development.
