Nigerian States to Publish Quarterly Education and Healthcare Contract Awards

Nigerian states, with the support of the World Bank, will begin publishing quarterly contract awards for basic education and primary healthcare projects within 30 days of each quarter's end. The initiative, part of the Human Capital Opportunities Project, seeks to promote transparency and equity in the governance sector.

Dr. Assad Hassan, the program's coordinator, revealed that the first implementation support meeting involved over 100 participants from states and the federal government.

The disclosed contract award information will include project names, award institutions, contractor names, contract amounts, and more. The aim is to ensure compliance with transparency standards and enable verification by Independent Verification Agents (IVA).

States are mandated to publish financial performance audits for basic education and primary healthcare, enhancing accountability. The program targets achieving maximum results by 2026, with a focus on citizen budgeting and financial transparency.
