FIFA Confirms Iran's Participation in 2026 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Iran will participate in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, despite complications regarding the entry of Iranian Football Federation members into Canada for a congress. Three members of the Iranian delegation arrived in Toronto, but one was denied entry, and Mehdi Taj, the federation president, was unable to enter Pearson Airport.

Infantino expressed regret over the situation and emphasized that Iran's participation is crucial for global unity. The Iranian team is set to begin its World Cup journey against New Zealand on June 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Concerns linger regarding potential immigration issues, particularly related to individuals connected to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as highlighted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

FIFA anticipates significant ticket sales and revenue for the tournament, with over 500 million ticket requests already received.
