Tagliafico Explains Argentina's Loss to Spain in Final

Argentina international Nicolas Tagliafico stated that the Albiceleste's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final was due to a combination of exhaustion, inadequate pitch conditions, and high temperatures influenced by television scheduling. Argentina, the defending champions, faced intense challenges in their knockout matches, including two instances of extra time and a dramatic comeback against Egypt in the Round of 16.

In contrast, Spain had less time on the field and an additional day to prepare for the final, which they won in extra time. Tagliafico remarked on the physical and mental drain experienced by the team, acknowledging Spain's superior performance.

Despite failing to register a shot on goal, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a record 12 saves, keeping Argentina competitive until Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute after Enzo Fernandez received a red card in stoppage time.
