World Gymnastics Lifts Restrictions on Belarus, Russia

World Gymnastics has announced the immediate lifting of restrictions on gymnasts from Belarus and Russia, enabling them to compete under their national flags and anthems. This decision was made during a meeting of the executive committee in Sharm El Sheikh and comes in response to the International Olympic Committee's recommendations earlier in the month.

The new policy stipulates that athletes from these nations must not actively support the war in Ukraine or have contracts with military or security services. The lifting of restrictions allows Belarusian and Russian gymnasts to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

However, the International Boxing Association has limited its reinstatement to Belarusian athletes only, while other federations like the International Skating Union and World Athletics continue to exclude these countries entirely from competitions.
