King Oyo, Youngest Monarch, to Be Buried September 12

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch, died in the United States at the age of 34 after battling an aggressive form of cancer. His body was returned to Uganda and arrived at Entebbe Airport, where President Yoweri Museveni and other mourners paid their respects.

Following a brief ceremony, the coffin was transported to Kyegegwa and then to the royal palace in Fort Portal. The Tooro Kingdom has commenced a nine-day mourning period, with King Oyo's body lying in state at Karuziika Palace.

A church funeral service will precede his burial on September 12, coinciding with the anniversary of his coronation. King Oyo ascended the throne in 1995 and became the 13th monarch of the Tooro Kingdom.

His death raises questions about the future of the monarchy, as he was not officially married, though he reportedly left an heir. President Museveni has ordered national flags to fly at half-mast for three days in honor of the late king.
