Worshipper Stabs Islamic Scholar in Sokoto Mosque Attack

On September 12, a worshipper stabbed Sheikh Musa Lukuwa, a popular Islamic scholar, shortly after Juma’at prayers at a mosque in the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis. The attack prompted other worshippers to retaliate, resulting in the assailant being beaten to death by a mob.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Sokoto State, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i, confirmed that one person was killed during the ensuing violence. Lukuwa, who led the Friday congregation, was stabbed in the stomach and was subsequently rushed to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) for treatment.

Rufa’i stated that the body of the deceased had been removed from the scene, and no arrests had been made regarding the incident. The police assured that the situation was under control and urged residents to remain calm.

Lukuwa had faced criticism recently for allegedly making blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which had incited anger among some Muslim faithful in Sokoto State. Additionally, a gangster named Dahiru Maibarewa had threatened Lukuwa's life over these remarks.
