Police Investigate Mosque Stabbing and Mob Killing in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the stabbing of Islamic cleric Malam Musa Lukawa and the subsequent killing of his alleged attacker by a mob. The incident took place on Friday shortly after the Jumu’at prayer at Lukuwa Mosque.

According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmad Rufai, a distress call was received at approximately 1:50 PM reporting the attack. An unidentified man entered the mosque and attacked Lukawa with a knife, inflicting deep cuts on his neck and left hand.

The assailant was overpowered by an angry mob and lynched before police could intervene. The suspect was taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Malam Musa Lukawa survived the attack and was discharged after treatment. The police condemned the mob killing and urged residents to avoid jungle justice.

Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa called for calm and cooperation with security agencies during the ongoing investigation.
