Wrexham's Arthur Okonkwo Receives Nigeria Call-Up

Arthur Okonkwo, a 24-year-old goalkeeper, has been called up to the Nigeria national football team for the first time ahead of the Unity Cup. Wrexham, his current club, issued an official statement congratulating him on this significant milestone.

Okonkwo, who previously represented England at youth levels (under-15 to under-18), is eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents. The Unity Cup will see Nigeria begin its campaign against Zimbabwe on May 26, with a potential final or third-place match on May 30 against either Jamaica or India.

Following the tournament, the Super Eagles will travel to Warsaw for a friendly against Poland on June 3, concluding with a fixture against Portugal in Leiria on June 10. Okonkwo, who stands at 6 feet 6 inches, joined Wrexham permanently in 2024 after leaving Arsenal, where he had signed his first professional contract in 2021.

His arrival adds competition for the current number one goalkeeper, Stanlei Nwabali, as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
