Okonkwo Shines on Super Eagles Debut with Clean Sheet

Arthur Okonkwo, currently a goalkeeper for Wrexham AFC, made his long-awaited debut for Nigeria's Super Eagles on Tuesday, where he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe. This win advanced Nigeria to the final of the 2026 United Cup.

Okonkwo, who previously represented England at youth levels, was confirmed eligible to play for Nigeria by FIFA in April. He was named to start by coach Eric Chell and produced a composed performance that helped secure the clean sheet.

The 24-year-old Okonkwo hopes to retain his place for the final and earn opportunities during friendly matches against Portugal and Poland in June. He has played a significant role in Wrexham's recent success, having initially joined the club on loan from Arsenal FC in 2023 and making a permanent move in the summer of 2024.

Okonkwo has made 39 appearances for Wrexham during the 2023-24 campaign, keeping 10 clean sheets.
