AHF's Taofeek Adeleye Educates on Proper Condom Use

Taofeek Adeleye, the Prevention Programme Manager of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, cautioned Nigerians about the use of ill-fitting condoms, which can lead to discomfort and discourage consistent use. His remarks were made during a two-day national training for media personnel on lenacapavir, organized by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria in collaboration with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS.

Adeleye highlighted the importance of selecting the correct condom size for comfort and pleasure, which can promote consistent use as part of HIV and STI prevention. He advised checking the expiry date and condition of condom packaging, warning against improper storage that could compromise quality.

Additionally, he demonstrated proper condom usage techniques and cautioned against using oil-based lubricants with latex condoms. The training aimed to enhance public understanding and media coverage of HIV prevention developments, with lenacapavir being a notable long-acting prevention option.
