Final Batch of Nigerians to Return from South Africa

The final batch of Nigerians is scheduled to arrive from South Africa on Wednesday, with a flight operated by Air Peace departing Johannesburg at 1:30 PM and expected to land at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos at approximately 6:30 PM. This flight will be the fifth evacuation flight organized by the Federal Government, part of a broader effort that has seen a total of 1,141 Nigerians repatriated since the evacuation exercise commenced following xenophobic attacks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed that 315 Nigerians will be on board this flight. The voluntary evacuation program has attracted interest from about 1,000 Nigerians wishing to return home.

Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, urged Nigerians to take advantage of the evacuation exercise amid reports of additional fatalities linked to the recent wave of xenophobic violence, raising the death toll to four.
