Tyla Calls for African Unity After Xenophobia Backlash

South African music star Tyla has publicly prayed for a unified Africa after facing significant backlash for not condemning xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. This criticism arose from several Nigerians who accused her of failing to utilize her platform to speak out against the violence directed at foreigners.

In response to the backlash, Tyla canceled her scheduled performance in Lagos. However, during her appearance at the South African Music Awards over the weekend, she expressed her pride in her African identity and reiterated her desire for unity across the continent.

In a video that has since gone viral, she stated, “And I am just so happy to be South African. I’m happy to be African most of all.

I pray one day to see a unified Africa. It’s so important.”.
