CPPE Warns Nigeria Against Sanctions on South African Firms

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Muda Yusuf, has advised the Nigerian government against taking retaliatory measures against South African companies operating in Nigeria following renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the CPPE warned that sanctions targeting South African investments could negatively impact Nigeria's economy and weaken investor confidence. The organization condemned the attacks, emphasizing that they are criminal acts perpetrated by non-state actors and should not be interpreted as official policy by the South African government.

The CPPE cautioned that punitive actions against South African firms could adversely affect Nigerian workers and businesses that rely on their operations. They also highlighted the importance of maintaining stable economic relations between Nigeria and South Africa, which are crucial for broader African trade and investment cooperation.
