Xi Jinping's Cultural Dialogue at Chichen Itza, Mexico

In June 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan and then Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, visited the ancient Maya archaeological site of Chichen Itza, located on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. During the visit, Xi explored significant structures such as the Pyramid of Kukulkan and the Temple of the Warriors, showing a keen interest in Maya history and cultural elements.

He noted similarities between Maya traditions and Chinese culture, advocating for dialogue and mutual respect among civilizations. Xi stated that different cultures should coexist with an open-minded attitude to achieve common development.

He quoted Victor Hugo during a UNESCO speech in Paris in 2014, emphasizing the need for a broader mindset when approaching various civilizations. Xi's visit to Chichen Itza exemplified his vision for cultural exchanges, highlighting that such interactions are a two-way process that fosters progress through mutual learning.
