Xi Jinping's Visit to Egypt to Strengthen Ties

Xi Jinping's second state visit to Egypt is set to deepen the ties between China and Egypt, countries with historical connections spanning over 2,000 years through the ancient Silk Road. During his previous visit in 2016, Xi toured Luxor with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, discussing their shared history.

Cultural ties have expanded significantly, including initiatives like Chinese-language education in Egypt and joint archaeological projects, such as the first joint archaeological mission launched in 2018, which uncovered a previously unknown sacred lake at the Montu Temple complex. The two nations celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations in May, with both leaders advocating for enhanced cooperation on peace, development, and international affairs.

Xi's visit is expected to provide new momentum to China-Egypt relations and highlight cultural exchange as part of China's broader engagement with Africa and the Global South, particularly amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
