Fashola Advocates System-Driven Governance at YABATECH

During the second annual distinguished service lecture at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) on Thursday, Babatunde Raji Fashola, a former minister, emphasized the importance of system-driven governance for achieving lasting public sector reform in Nigeria. He argued that strong institutional frameworks and clear processes are essential for accountability and efficiency in public service.

Fashola, representing former Lagos State Polytechnic rector Dr. Oluremi Olaley, highlighted that regardless of the power held by public office holders, the structure and system must be robust to ensure due process.

He noted that every individual within an institution plays a critical role in its success or failure, warning that neglecting duties can undermine the entire system. Fashola identified three key pillars necessary for institutional reform: structural reform, cultural reform, and accountability systems.

He advocated for technology-driven monitoring tools to enhance transparency and efficiency in public service. The event also honored 157 staff members for their contributions to effective service delivery.
