Benue State Implements 85% of IDP Relief Funds

The Benue State government has reported that it has implemented 85% of the N1.275 billion funds donated for the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) following the Yelewata attack in June 2025. During a press briefing in Makurdi, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Deborah Serumun Aber, who chairs the technical committee overseeing the fund, confirmed that the donations were spearheaded by Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who contributed N1 billion.

Other contributions included N150 million from the Nasarawa State Government, N100 million from the African Development Bank, and N25 million from the Department of State Services. The allocated funds cover various areas, including cash transfers, food and nutrition, shelter, water and sanitation, security, agriculture, health, peace reconciliation, and education.

Additionally, 1,000 beneficiaries are set to receive N50,000 cash transfers, and 5,833 IDPs have enrolled in the Benue State health insurance scheme. Infrastructure improvements include the drilling of boreholes and the construction of makeshift classrooms.
