Yobe Community Crowdfunds for Kidney Disease Outreach

Residents of Bade Local Government Area in Yobe State have initiated a crowdfunding effort to support a medical outreach for individuals suffering from kidney disease. This initiative, led by Dr Hamza Tasi’u, aims to alleviate the burden on patients who must travel to Damaturu for dialysis, a journey that many families cannot afford.

Tasi’u stated that the outreach was prompted by the increasing prevalence of kidney disease and the associated difficulties in accessing treatment. Despite ongoing appeals for a dialysis center in Gashua, the state government has yet to fulfill its promise to establish one.

The urgency of the situation has been underscored by rising mortality rates linked to kidney disease in the area. Yusuf Nadabo, a nursing officer and local resident, urged the Buni administration to prioritize healthcare infrastructure.

The kidney disease crisis has persisted for decades in communities like Gashua and Jakusko, prompting scientific investigations into its causes.
