Yobe Residents Criticize Buni's N300m University Donation

Residents and activists in Yobe State have expressed strong criticism towards Governor Mai Mala Buni regarding his donation of N300 million to the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (Izala) for a proposed religious university. The announcement was made on Sunday during a symposium in Jos, Plateau State.

Critics, including Umar Yobe from the Peoples Democratic Party, alleged that public funds were used without proper consultation, questioning the appropriateness of prioritizing this donation over urgent needs in education and healthcare. Activist KY Tebo highlighted the struggles of residents suffering from kidney-related ailments, emphasizing the lack of a dialysis center in the state.

He argued that the funds could have significantly improved medical facilities. Additionally, Adamu Bello Jana criticized the state government for neglecting the education sector, pointing out the poor conditions of schools and the high number of out-of-school children.

The controversy centers on government priorities rather than opposition to the university project itself.
