Yobe Governor Launches RUGA Settlement to Ease Farmer-Herder Conflicts

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni officially commissions a Fulani Rural Grazing Area settlement in Nguru Local Government Area. The settlement, established with support from philanthropist Balarab Abdullahi, aims to reduce violent clashes between farmers and herders by providing essential social and economic amenities.

These include residential homes, schools, healthcare facilities, shops, water, electricity, and mosques to create a safe and sustainable living environment for herders. Governor Buni emphasizes that the project will help curb open grazing, which often leads to farmland destruction.

The initiative is specifically designed to reduce conflicts and provide designated grazing areas for herders by 2025 in several northern states, including Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, and Nasarawa, as part of the Ruga transformation plan to boost food production and complement the Federal Government's livestock production plan.
