Yobe Governor Buni Launches Day Schools for Girls

Stakeholders, educationists, and students from Government Girls’ Day Secondary School in Yobe State have commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for the establishment of day secondary schools for girls. This initiative allows girls to pursue their education without leaving their families, addressing a significant barrier that previously forced many to discontinue schooling after Junior Secondary School (JSS) due to parental reluctance to send them to boarding schools.

Amina Muhammad, a student, noted that the absence of day schools had previously led many girls to consider early marriage. The new schools enable students to balance education with household responsibilities, as highlighted by Maryam Ibrahim.

Teachers and civil servants, including Mohammed Isa and Mohammed Mato, emphasized that these schools have reduced the number of out-of-school children and made education more accessible and affordable, alleviating the financial burden of private schooling. The Buni administration has established six government girls’ day secondary schools across Yobe State as part of efforts to enhance educational access.
