Yobe State Upgrades 5 General Hospitals to Specialist Status for Enhanced Healthcare Services

Yobe State has upgraded five general hospitals to specialist status to improve healthcare services delivery. Dr.

Abubakar Yerima of the Yobe State Hospital Management Board announced the upgrades during a media tour, highlighting the move to strengthen healthcare services and reduce pressure on existing health centers in Gashua, Geidam, Potiskum, Damaturu, and Buni Yadi. The upgraded facilities will now serve as referral centers and receive patients from general hospitals and primary healthcare centers within their respective zones.

The state government has also employed 2,500 healthcare workers in the past year to address manpower gaps and meet international standards, with plans to recruit specialist consultants monthly and enroll 60-70 medical personnel in residency training programs.
