Yobe State Government seeks Russian investment in agriculture
The Yobe State Government has presented nine investment opportunities to Russian businesses to attract foreign investment in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and other sectors. Key proposals include the development of a 1,500-hectare Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in Damaturu, rice and sesame processing plants, agricultural mechanisation, and dedicated power generation capacity of 50 to 100 megawatts.
The proposals were presented by Dr Sa’id Alkali Kori, the Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on International Relations and Investment, during engagements in Moscow at the Russia-Africa Summit. The Yobe delegation also discussed potential investment cooperation with Sistema Public Joint Stock Financial Corporation, covering areas such as agro-industrialisation, power generation, and healthcare.
To attract investors, the government outlined support measures, including access to land, tax incentives, and security support. The proposed SAPZ aims to enhance agricultural value chains, reduce post-harvest losses, and create employment opportunities.
