Tinubu's Aide Critiques UK Silence on Nigeria's Persecution

Bola Ahmed Tinubu's senior aide, Sundai Dare, criticized the United Kingdom for its silence during recent global discussions regarding alleged religious persecution in Nigeria. This criticism was articulated in an opinion article published ahead of Tinubu's first state visit to the UK as President, scheduled for the week of the article's publication.

Dare argued that Britain has appeared distant from the realities of Nigeria's situation and should play a more moderate role in international debates concerning religious persecution. During this visit, Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, will attend a state banquet hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.

The visit will include bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. UK lawmakers have expressed concerns regarding attacks on Christians in Nigeria, with Jim Shannon, the chairman of the parliamentary group on freedom of religion or belief, calling for the UK government to press Nigeria on human rights issues.

The discussions are expected to focus on investment, security cooperation, and technological partnerships.
