Delta LG Chairmen Urged to Prioritize Development

The civil society organization in Delta State has called on local government council chairmen to prioritize development in their areas, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, and education. Derrick Agberen, the national coordinator of ISRCA, made this statement in Warri, emphasizing that the chairmen have no excuses for underperformance.

The call for accountability follows the announcement of a N7 billion allocation reportedly released for local government areas in the 2026 budget. The group criticized the past practices of state governments in disbursing funds, asserting that local government chairmen should now manage direct allocations from the federal government without interference.

They pointed out that many areas in Delta State lack essential services, and the chairmen must demonstrate effective resource management to benefit their communities. The organization also urged Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to establish a project monitoring committee across the 25 local government areas to ensure judicious use of the allocated funds.
