Ondo Youths Protest Farmer's Killing, Demand Security Action

On Tuesday, hundreds of youths in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State protested the killing of a farmer, Ben Daniel, who was reportedly attacked and murdered on his farm on Monday. The incident, allegedly involving herdsmen, triggered outrage among residents, especially following a recent kidnapping incident in the Uso community, where a neighbor was released after a ransom was paid.

The protest led to the blocking of the Akure-Owo expressway for several hours, with demonstrators chanting solidarity songs and demanding improved security measures. Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations revealed Daniel was attacked while riding a motorcycle.

Governor Lucki Aiyedatiwa expressed his displeasure over the rising insecurity in the state and indicated that local collaboration may be involved in the insecurity issues. He vowed to clamp down on such activities and emphasized the need for traditional rulers to monitor their domains and report suspicious activities.
