Ondo Residents Protest Insecurity, Block Highway for Help

On Tuesday morning, residents, primarily youth, in Ondo State protested against rising insecurity, blocking a highway and carrying placards with messages pleading for government assistance. Joseph Ade, a resident, expressed that they can no longer farm due to incessant kidnappings and killings in the area.

The protest aimed to draw attention to their plight, with residents stating they would not leave until Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa addressed their concerns. Adebowale Lawal, the Commissioner of Police in the state, appealed for the restoration of free vehicular movement while assuring residents that security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and police, would ensure their safety.

He promised to deploy additional policemen and tactical units to address the security challenges. The protest follows recent incidents, including the kidnapping of a woman and the shooting of a businessman in the area, highlighting the urgent need for effective security measures.
