YPP Boycotts Anambra East LG Election Over Violence

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) announced its boycott of the ongoing local government elections in Anambra East Local Government Area, citing allegations of violence and electoral irregularities. The elections took place on a Saturday, with the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) fielding candidates across the state.

Mr. Charles Ifediora, the YPP's Local Government Collation Agent for Anambra East, reported that APGA and the state government conspired to create a hostile environment, preventing opposition participation. He stated that one female YPP member was shot and hospitalized during the violence.

Ifediora claimed that YPP agents were barred from performing their duties, with gunfire reported as supporters gathered at their designated locations. He accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration of facilitating what he termed a sham election, particularly alarming given that the YPP had candidates for all 15 councillorship positions in the local government, covering 241 polling units.

By 1:00 p.m., no voting was observed in the monitored areas.
