APGA Dominates Anambra Local Government Elections

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) achieved a significant victory in the local government elections held on Saturday in Anambra, winning all 21 council chairmen positions and all 326 positions for ward councilors. In Nnewi North LGA, Hon Echezona Anazodo was reelected as chairman, securing 56,506 votes, alongside the reelection of all ten ward councilors in the area.

The Returning Officer for Nnewi North LGA, Prof Uche Ojukwu from the Political Science Department at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, announced the results. However, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) raised concerns regarding the electoral process in Anambra East LGA, alleging that their supporters faced intimidation and were scared away from polling units due to gunshots.

The Public Relations Officer of YPP in Anambra East LGA stated that many voters who intended to support their candidates had to flee for safety during the election.
