Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two LG Chairmen Over Fraud

On Wednesday, the Zamfara State House of Assembly suspended two local government chairmen, Mannir Azu of Kaura Namoda and Umar Faru of Bukkuyum, due to allegations of financial misappropriation. The suspension was enacted following the adoption of a report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which was presented during a plenary session.

The spokesperson for the House, Bello Madaro Kurya, stated that the action was part of efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability within local government administration. The committee recommended the suspension after the chairmen allegedly failed to honor invitations to explain the expenditures of funds allocated to their councils.

The House, presided over by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki, unanimously adopted the committee's recommendation, approving the immediate suspension of the two chairmen pending the conclusion of investigations. The assembly cited the chairmen's alleged disregard for legislative authority and lack of transparency as reasons for their suspension.
