Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two Local Govt Chairmen for Misuse

The Zamfara State House of Assembly announced the suspension of two local government chairmen, Mannir Mu Azu of Kaura Namoda and Umar Faru of Bukkuyum, due to alleged misuse of public funds. This decision was made during a plenary session on Wednesday, where the House deliberated on a report presented by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, chaired by Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm.

The lawmakers adopted the suspension recommendation without opposition, highlighting the chairmen's failure to respond to multiple invitations to clarify the allocation and expenditure of funds. House spokesperson Bello Kurya described the chairmen's non-compliance as a serious violation and a clear sign of disregard for the Assembly's authority.

The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place pending the outcome of an ongoing financial probe involving 14 local government councils in the state for the 2025 fiscal year. The Assembly emphasized its commitment to promoting accountability and prudent management of public resources.
