Jigawa Assembly Orders Recovery of Missing Public Funds

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has mandated the recovery of missing public funds and the imposition of sanctions on erring officials due to financial irregularities uncovered in an audit covering the years 2019 to 2024. This resolution followed a report presented by Mr.

Sani Isyaku, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, during a plenary session on Wednesday. The committee conducted a comprehensive review of the audit accounts of the Jigawa State government and its 27 local government councils.

It identified unverifiable expenditures, overpayments, and unaccounted funds, recommending that responsible officials face disciplinary actions in accordance with civil service rules. The committee also highlighted issues such as weak procurement processes and poor revenue collection as significant problems.

Speaker Haruna Dangyatim commended the committee for its thorough work and assured that the report would be forwarded to the executive for further action.
