Zamfara Governor Lawal Orders Security Overhaul After Attacks

Following a series of bandit attacks in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has ordered a comprehensive security overhaul. In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson Sulaiman Idri, the governor convened an emergency security meeting on Friday at the government house in Gusau.

This meeting included heads of security agencies and relevant stakeholders to address the escalating wave of insecurity in the state. Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity and urged security chiefs to urgently review the current security architecture.

He called for the implementation of coordinated strategies to counter emerging threats, heightened vigilance, and strengthened intelligence gathering. The governor also emphasized the need for immediate joint countermeasures to prevent further attacks.

He expressed condolences for security personnel who lost their lives or sustained injuries in the line of duty and assured that logistical support would continue. This emergency meeting follows a particularly violent attack on February 19 in Dutsin Dan Ajiya village, Anka Local Government Area, where dozens of residents were reportedly killed and several abducted.
