Zamfara Expands Medical Outreach with Uterine Surgeries

Zamfara has launched an expanded medical outreach program that includes the introduction of uterine prolapse surgeries, marking a significant enhancement in healthcare services, particularly for women with complex medical conditions. The initiative is led by Prof.

Ismail Mungadi, the chairman of the outreach committee, and will operate across 14 local government areas from August 2023 to November 2025. During this phase, it is reported that 4,795 surgical procedures will be carried out for 4,185 patients, with 1,200 residents receiving free treatment for hypertension and diabetes.

The outreach aims to address various medical conditions, including vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), cataracts, and groin swell surgeries, as well as rare conditions like intersex anomalies and undescended testicles. The program has achieved a surgical success rate of 99.98%.

Beyond direct treatment, the initiative seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve surgical capacity in hospitals, and motivate medical personnel through upgraded facilities and modern equipment.
