Zulum Presents Gubio as Preferred Candidate for Borno

On Thursday, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum presented Mustafa Gubio as his preferred candidate for the governorship to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This decision comes amid ongoing political consultations within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the state prepares for the 2027 governorship elections.

Zulum reportedly declined to back candidates preferred by the Vice President, which included Senator Kaka Shehu and Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari. The governor emphasized that Gubio's emergence as the consensus candidate resulted from extensive consultations among party stakeholders, reflecting a unified position within the APC in Borno State.

Zulum praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and leadership role in Gubio's candidacy and commended Shettima for his backing of party cohesion. The announcement was made in the presence of several party leaders and government officials, including former Governor Maina Aji Lawan and Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur.
