NCDC Lassa Fever Deaths Update

The Lassa fever death toll in Nigeria has reached 252, with a case fatality rate of 24.4%. New cases were reported from August 10 to August 16 in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, and Benue states, prompting continued surveillance by the NCDC.

Nigeria recorded 1,035 confirmed cases of Lassa fever and 252 deaths across 23 states in the first 33 weeks of 2026, with a fatality rate of 24.4%. The NCDC reported a rise in cases and implemented measures to contain the outbreak.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported 14 new confirmed Lassa fever cases, raising the total to 1,035 with 252 deaths. The latest cases were recorded between August 10 and August 16 in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, and Benue states.
